Electronics measurement software
Measurement is at the heart of electronics, and software increasingly performs the role once filled only by stand-alone instruments. This turns a personal computer into a flexible test bench whose functions can be extended or changed without buying new equipment.

The accuracy of these PC-based instruments depends on the input hardware: a sound-card input is limited in bandwidth and is alternating-current coupled, so it suits audio-frequency work, while a proper data-acquisition device or USB instrument extends the range and adds calibrated inputs. Many programs also log measurements over time, automate repeated tests and export results for reports. Used with an understanding of these limits, measurement software gives an inexpensive and capable way to observe and characterise electronic signals.
