Vacuum Tube Datasheets
A vacuum tube datasheet is the manufacturer's technical description of a particular valve, giving the information needed to use it correctly in a circuit. Tubes were produced in thousands of types over many decades, identified by codes such as 12AX7, EL34 or 6L6, and each type has its own electrical characteristics. The datasheet collects these in a standard form so that a designer or repairer can choose the right tube and set up its operating conditions.
Typical entries include the base or socket type and the pin connections, the heater or filament voltage and current, and maximum ratings for plate voltage, plate dissipation and other electrodes that must not be exceeded. The datasheet also lists characteristics such as amplification factor, transconductance and plate resistance, which describe how strongly the tube amplifies and how it behaves electrically. Sets of curves show plate current against plate and grid voltages, allowing the designer to pick a bias point and predict performance.

Large archives of scanned datasheets and tube manuals from the original manufacturers are maintained online, often cross-referenced by type number and by equivalent or substitute tubes that can replace a hard-to-find part.
